Sleeping pads keep your body warm and also keeps the sleeping bag clean by protecting it against loose dirt from the tent floor. Keeping your sleeping pad clean is very necessary. Sleeping pads should be washed at the end of every camping season or it could become damaged by sweats and other liquid spilled over it during camping if stored without washing over a long period of time. However, cleaning the sleeping pad is pretty easy. Below are important steps to help you while clean a sleeping pad.
Start by wiping off any dirt or debris on the exterior of the sleeping pad. The pad should be inflated while doing this, to enable cleaning easier. Seal all air caps to prevent water from getting inside the pad, and then put the pad in your bathtub.
Secondly, squirt 1tablespoon of antibacterial soap into your sponge, rub it together forming lather. Gently scrub the sleeping pad in a circular motion from top to bottom to clean any stubborn stain. Place the pad on the floor of the bathtub and clean. Rinse the surface of the sleeping pad and repeat the same process on the other side.
The next step is to dry the surface with a towel after removing it from a bathtub. Uncap the air-plug and hang the entire pad on a line to dry. Avoid putting your sleeping pad in a dryer or using a hair dryer to dry it because this could damage the fibers and it could also melt the surface of the pad.
Lastly, store in a flat or slightly folded position. Do not roll the pad tightly during storage to avoid stressing the material causing cracks and creases along the edges.
